Well..I see my post did it’s thing while I was gone. How cool is that? I’ll have to remember that for the future.

Well, after not sleeping one bit Friday night, we left here around 6 am in order to make it to the event in time. I got my display set up.

artisan6.jpg

I sat there behind my display all day, talking to judges and explaining things to them. It was very nice and I had a good time. I didn’t win (of course..it wasn’t expected that I would) but I made a good showing and was even called up into Court as one of the judges favorites. My display was well received and I was told that they want to see me compete more *gulp*.

Anyway, enough about that. (If you want to see more photos, look HERE)

I got a new toy! Actually The Manperson made me a new toy.

windingstation.jpg

It’s a winding station. It’s got dowels for cones and a metal rod for bobbins from the wheel. He used red oak and its really nice. I just have to put the little screw eyes on it for yarn guides and put a finish on it and it’s ready to go. (though I’ve already been using it). BikerChick has one on order already!

Last night I spent quality time with my warping board and made the warp chains for my first warp of the loom. Today I get to give that a go. Wish me luck!

Yes, I have been knitting, but I don’t have photos. I’m pretty well into the second charade sock and should be turning the heel soon. MS3 is just sitting there because I have to be in the right frame of mind to work on it..and I’ve not been there. I got my first installment of TheKnitter’s Sock Club, but I’ve resisted casting on. I’m waiting for the Charades to be finished. Because of Ravelry there are eleventy jillion projects I want to do RIGHT NOW!!!, but I’m trying to restrain myself. I did join the other mysery shawl along (circular shawl!!!) and the Thordis along, but I’m waiting on yarn for those so they are on the back burner.

Last week, I got a call from a nice lady that hosts a monthly knitting night that BikerChick and I attended. They were all amazed when we had gone that we “knit socks on 4 needles”. She called me asking if we could have a special get together and if I could show them how. So, off we go and I took copies of Kathryn’s Universal Sock pattern and we got them started. I had 3 students and they all had a good bit of cuff going on before the evening was out. Next time I get to teach them heels! It’s been a fun adventure!

If this works, it will be posting while I am setting up a table full of things to compete in an A&S contest in the SCA. I will be at Steppes Artisan with a whole bunch of stuff. Wish me luck.

This competition is a bit different from most. It’s a “body of work” competition. That means that I’m entering many of the things that I’ve done since I started being active in the SCA. Most of the time, the people that enter this competition, have competed in other venues in the SCA, but I haven’t. For those of you not familiar with how an SCA competition works, you don’t just put out your pretty thing you made. You have to write documentation, which tells about the item and it’s use and construction in its time period, and your item and why you did anything different (if you did).

I am entering knitted stockings, inkle and card weaving, handspun yarns, lampwork beads and some cooking.

weavingpic.jpg

This is a selection of inkle and card weaving that I have done.

stocking.jpg

This is the stocking, I have the other one about 1/3 of the way done and I was told it was ok to enter works in progress.

applesnoranges.jpg

Apple and Orange Pie. An interesting recipe I found. You boil the orange slices (with the peel on) in honey, water and lemon for 2 hours. Yes..you read that right, you leave the peel on. It turned out very tasty and the house smelled good for hours.

beads.jpg

These are my beads. They aren’t that great, but I’ve had great fun making them. Pretty colors too.

handspun.jpg

Yarn! This is a photo of the basket of yarn I’ll be displaying. I’m not exactly happy with this display yet. I’m sure I’ll figure out something.

I promise I’ll have photos of my whole display when I get back.

Look Ma..I can knit too…

I have actually been knitting some.

picture-001.jpg Go figure..a sock from tofutsies yarn…ILOVE LOVE LOVE IT. I will use this yarn more in the future. picture-002.jpg This is another sock, kind of. Its a stocking made from THIS pattern. I started this pattern the day before I left for spring break and knit all the way there and some while I was there. At the point the photo was taken I was to the point where I would be starting the clocks at the ankles. I’m now done with the decreases and I’m almost ready to start the heel. I’m using mercerized cotton yarn to test the pattern, but I’m going to be on the look out for some silk to make another pair once I’m done with these.

picture-119.jpg We spent the weekend down near Canyon Lake at an SCA event. I had to stop on the way back and take photos of the boys with the bluebonnets. (they look thrilled don’t they??) You can see a couple more photos here.

Where we were staying this weekend was near the Guadalupe River, there was a creek that ran through the camping area and I wandered down before we left yesterday to take a couple of photos.

picture-109.jpg You want to know what’s sad? The owners have sold this land to developers and they are going to be building condos on it. What a shame. It’s really pretty down there. (more photos here)

I’d better get to hopping and get some laundry done. More later including the bobbin lace I learned at Gulf War.

(ps..more photos from my weekend can be viewed here and theres a couple of videos here.)

My spring break

If you’d like to see what I did over my Spring Break (March 11-18th) click HERE.

I have some knitting to report and some weaving too, but I’m swamped with school projects right now.

I’ll try to post some real content in the next few days.

Oh..and I’m teaching my mom to knit and I’ve set her up a blog. I’ll link you all to it once she posts something so you can welcome her to the blog world.

This is neat…

HAHAHAHAHAHAHA……..

This is the funniest thing I have ever seen EVER. I am going to have to see this movie.

Feeeeear the sheeeeeeeeeeeep!

Hey look..me posting on a Saturday

Saturday, October 28th, 2006

I didn’t go to Killeen this weekend. I didn’t like the idea of not going, but I really needed to do things around the house, and get things in order here. I miss J, but I’ll get to see him Wednesday evening. My SCA Group is hosting our yearly event (Three Kings – there’s a link to it on the group page) and he is coming up here Wednesday. So..I am getting ready for that too.

I need to make a new dress for the event, but I don’t even have my pattern cut out yet. *sigh* I have some pretty blue linen that I’m going to use and I bought some woven trim for it recently. This is the trim that I have. The linen is the color of the background in the trim. I plan on putting it around the hem and the hem of the sleeves. This will be the dress. I won’t be doing the belt or the underskirt. I’ll make a full underdress instead of a skirt and I have several belts already. Hopefully I can get this going tomorrow. Shouldn’t take too long at all once I get it cut out. I also have some black and gold linen (kingdom colors) that I’m going to make a parti-colored cotehardie from. Maybe that will be my over Christmas break project.

The shawl I mentioned in the last post is going to the frog pond. Something is wrong on the left side and I don’t know what. It will be easier to frog the whole thing and start over than to try and figure out what happened. It’s in time out for now, but I’ll probably frog that in the upcoming week. I am working on the second Lacy Scallops sock (finally! I finished the first one back in January) I’m one repeat away from starting the heel so maybe I’ll finish these soon too.

Well, I’m sitting here procrastinating and not cleaning my bedroom like I should, so I’d better get off my ass and get it done. It shouldn’t take that long. Boy do I need a maid.
