If this works, it will be posting while I am setting up a table full of things to compete in an A&S contest in the SCA. I will be at Steppes Artisan with a whole bunch of stuff. Wish me luck.

This competition is a bit different from most. It’s a “body of work” competition. That means that I’m entering many of the things that I’ve done since I started being active in the SCA. Most of the time, the people that enter this competition, have competed in other venues in the SCA, but I haven’t. For those of you not familiar with how an SCA competition works, you don’t just put out your pretty thing you made. You have to write documentation, which tells about the item and it’s use and construction in its time period, and your item and why you did anything different (if you did).

I am entering knitted stockings, inkle and card weaving, handspun yarns, lampwork beads and some cooking.

This is a selection of inkle and card weaving that I have done.

stocking.jpg

This is the stocking, I have the other one about 1/3 of the way done and I was told it was ok to enter works in progress.

applesnoranges.jpg

Apple and Orange Pie. An interesting recipe I found. You boil the orange slices (with the peel on) in honey, water and lemon for 2 hours. Yes..you read that right, you leave the peel on. It turned out very tasty and the house smelled good for hours.

beads.jpg

These are my beads. They aren’t that great, but I’ve had great fun making them. Pretty colors too.

handspun.jpg

Yarn! This is a photo of the basket of yarn I’ll be displaying. I’m not exactly happy with this display yet. I’m sure I’ll figure out something.

I promise I’ll have photos of my whole display when I get back.

I finished one of the Charade socks last night.

charade1fini.jpg

It has an interesing toe..one I’ve never done before.

It meets with Fiona’s tough standards.

I got some interesting news! Dani  nominated me for a Rockin’ Girl Blogger award. This is too cool! I wasn’t ready so I don’t have a speech prepared!

I am nominating 5 people for the award. Go check em out.

Wanna see something so cute it will make your teeth hurt.

Wow…three posts in three days.

I just had to post that ….

clue2.jpg

I FINALLY FINISHED CLUE 2!!!!

*ehem* Sorry bout that. I finished at like 1 am last night. I couldn’t stretch it out to get a great photo of it because I’m working on a 16″ size 3 needle. The stole, fully blocked will be like 22 inches wide. No stretching sideways for me til I’m done. I’m printing off clue 3 now and heading over to BikerChick’s when I pick the girl child up from work.  I’ll work on clue 3 some at her house.

We’ve found a new cajun meat market and BikerChick and hubby got a crawfish stuffed chicken, we’re going to get one (maybe with a different stuffing) and have us a Cajun dinner tonight. AIIIIIIIIIEEEEEEEEEE

Oh…want to see the beads on the stole?

clue2beads.jpg

Can you see them? I’m using multi colored iridescent beads. I counted 22 beads in this photo. Heeee..It’s like “Where’s Waldo”

I’m off now! See yas later.

Batteries finally got charged…

I’ve made a little more progress on my Charade sock..

puckscharade2.jpg

I love the yarn… and I’m loving how it’s knitting up. That reminds me..I need to change my progress bar.

This is the yarn that I got at Rosepath on Wednesday.

weavingcotton.jpg

It’s a 3/2 cotton and one is 8 oz and the other is 9 oz. I’m following the instructions in Deborah Chandlers “Learn to Weave”, and the first lesson is a two color warp. This is going to be fun!

pictures-005.jpg

I’ll be preparing my warp on this. This is my 14  yard warping board that the Manperson built me. It doesn’t have a finish on it cuz I want to USE IT NOW! I’ll put the finish on it after I warp the loom the first time.

sleyinghook.jpg

This is my kitty sleying hook that I found at Rosepath. It’s brass and smooth and I lurve it.

rosepathbag.jpg

And finally… the cute little bag I got at Rosepath, it’s pink vinyl with black straps that are kind of like a back pack. :) It will make a great small project bag. (and at a good price too …$5)

booties.jpg

NO I AM NOT PREGNANT!! *ehem*

BikerChick has a fellow employee who’s wife is expecting and ..I just LOVE this pattern(pdf).  I used leftover Opal sock yarn from my Lacy Scallops socks. I have enough I could probably make two more pairs. I’m in heaven..a way to use up leftover sock yarn!!

sol.jpg

This is a couple of skeins of yarn I ordered to make the Charm Wrap (I had to order 9).  It is Yarn Source Sol from from Lambikin’s Hideaway. This is NICE yarn. It’s very much like Cascade 220 at a VERY affordable price!

Ok..I would have more photos here, but after I took the last one the batteries died on my camera. Something is up with my charger. Hopefully I can take the rest next time.

I went to Rosepath yesterday and I got two cones of yarn for the loom and a sleying hook and another hook for the heddles. Manperson has built me a warping board and I should be able to start that tomorrow. (He’s still doing a bit of sanding) I also got a cute little pink bag with the Rosepath logo on it! (see..I really need photos here!)

Anyway.. BikerChick and I are considering going to see the Harlot when she comes to Houston. Who all wants to meet up??  I think that it will be a hoot…not to mention it’s two days after my bday. We are also going to try to go to Kid n Ewe this year too! She has a friend in Boerne who said we can crash on her floor! No hotel expense = more money to spend at the festival!! WOOOHOO! I know there was a blogger meetup for that last year too.

I’d better get back to reading my weaving book so that I’ll not totally fubar the warping of the loom!

And now for something completely different
