Wheee… I used the heel from the Generic Toe-up sock Pattern from WendyKnits. I think it looks pretty good, and it seems to fit ok. It does look a bit more shallow than other short row heels I’ve seen, but I’ll try another version on the next pair I do toe up.

Now I get to use up the rest of this ball of yarn. Back to my knitting!!

Fiona and Liam say “BRRRRR…it’s cold outside” I go to school about 45 miles west of here and the weather is worse that way so my University canceled classes. I kept Liam home because I didn’t want to get up since it’s cold..and I’m feeling a tad bit under the weather. My other two are at school, but they are letting them out early, at 2pm!! (yes…2 pm? WTF??) All the other schools in the area are closed or let out at around noon if not before.

I’m sitting in my pajamas and reading blogs, knitting,(note the oxford comma) and listening to podcasts. Apparently Fiona is a fan of knitting blogs.
stuff-032.jpg Who knew? She likes to sit in my lap and read blogs with me. She really likes Crazy Aunt Purl, Knitting, with Dogs, and Chaos and Mayhem over at Stumbling over Chaos. (yes..my dog loves kitties. She even has her own kitty, named Sasha. Sasha however, disputes that notion)

On to the knitting.

Does this sock make my foot look fat?

I’m giving the whole toe up thing a try, but of course I can’t do things by the book. I used the magic cast on from Knitty and then increased up to 68 stitches. I have 36 on the instep and 32 on the bottom of the foot. I’m doing the twin rib stitch that I found in Sensational Knitted Socks. I haven’t figured out what I’m doing for the heel yet. I want to try either short row or afterthought or one of those other heels besides flap heels. I would appreciate any links to heel designs for toe up socks. I guess I’ll figure it out when I get there. I’m just trying to expand my horizons. Just for the hell of it, another view.

I wonder how long before I frog these?

A couple of people have asked about the mitts pattern. I have someone testing the pattern for me and then I’ll need to make the pattern actually readable and not just in a form I know how to read. Give me a bit and I’ll put it on here for you to give a try.

Oh..I forgot about this. Do any of you use Skype? I use it to talk to friends sometimes and I just discovered they have this neat thing called Skypecasts. Basically it’s an interactive LIVE podcast. You can join in and everyone talk together. I thought it was neat and thought about creating one, but I didn’t want to sit there with my headset on and talk to no one but myself. Gimme a shout if you want to give it a try.

When things look like this outside  frozen.jpg    frozen4.jpg

frozen6.jpg I don’t go outside. Instead, I tend to do other things.

Like this: sparklyspun.jpg  OO…sparkly!! Can’t see the sparkles?

It looked like this before I spun it. sparklyfiber.jpg Can you see the sparklies in it?

I have a ton of this wool. I got it when i bought my wheel. I’m not sure what i want to do with it. We’ll see when I get it all spun. I don’t even know if i want to ply it or leave it singles.

Well…I”m back to school tomorrow. Yay!! I’d better get to beddy bye!

Sometimes the creative muse strikes me. Remember the teal wool that Kae dyed and I made some pretty yarn out of?

Lookie what I did with it.

mitts-004.jpg

Modeled by my very lovely daughter.  The cowl is the Cashmere Mobius Cowl by Cat Bordhi. The mitts…are designed by ME!! Yep, I couldn’t find a pattern I liked so I made up my own.

More photos.

mitts-007.jpgmitts-006.jpgmitts-005.jpg

Don’t I have a beautiful model? The Cowl actually fits me a bit better than it does her. It seems her head is long and skinny and mine is short and fat (hmm..just like the rest of me)

The fingerless mitts are a feather and fan pattern on top with ribbing on the palms to keep them snug. I’m working on writing up the pattern  if anyone is interested in giving it a shot.

Happy Sunday all!!
