Books anyone?

Wednesday, December 27th, 2006

If any of you happen to like quilting, I have listed most of my quilting books on ebay. I don’t think I’m going to be doing much quilting anymore so I have decided to declutter. I also have about 5 years worth of Quilter’s newsletter magazines that I will be getting rid of soon also.

My ebay user name is Mariora or you can just click here.

My mother is also working on listing a bunch of her books and I’ll pop up a link here when we get done with the listings. Her user name is shondag or just click here
Thanks for looking!

9000 mittens????

Friday, December 22nd, 2006

What will 9,000 hands have in common during the NATO Summit in Riga this November? 4,500 pairs of traditional hand-made Latvians mittens!
That’s what the NATO Summit Latvia Task Force has prepared for Summit guests. The mittens were specially knitted by hundreds of women and men around the country ranging in age from 30 to 86.

That is really cool.

I hope everyone has a happy holiday season. I’m headed out now to pick up the man type person, drop off the boys, and head to Austin for the Trans Siberian concert. I’ll be back home Sunday for Xmas eve with my kiddos and I’m sure I’ll post something about the concert then.

Just testing..

I found a new plugin for Firefox that allows you to post to your blog. It’s called “Performancing.” If this works, then that means the plugin works for WordPress. I think you can also us it for things like typepad, blogger etc.

It looks interesting so we’ll see how it works out.

Yarn!!!

Tuesday, December 19th, 2006

I actually spent some quality time with my spinning wheel last week. Yes…I should have been studying for my finals, but for some reason..the wheel calmed me down and helped with the stress.

I’ve been spinning some fiber that Kae sent me back in September for my birthday. It is the dark teal-ish colored stuff in the right side of this photo.  There were five bundles of it and I have spun 3 so far.

yarn2.jpg  And this is what I’ve ended up with.  That’s 336 yards. It’s a pretty color and the yarn is soft. Theres a subtle variation in the color that I doubt got picked up in the photo. I had to take the picture inside as it is cloudy and misting outside today. Not very good photo taking weather. I’ll see if I can’t get photos outside once I get the rest spun and maybe we’ll have a nice sunny day by then.

I haven’t mentioned this yet, because I didn’t want to jinx it, but I get to go to Trans Siberian Orchestra on Friday!! We have seats in the FIFTH ROW!! I’m so excited. I wish I could take the camera, but there are no camera’s allowed in the hall. You’ll just have to listen to me gush about it when I get home.

Well, I need to get back to cleaning the house and other things that got neglected during the school year. (man this place is a pigsty!!) Happy Holidays everyone!

Saturday Sky…a bit late

Monday, December 18th, 2006

I actually have several Saturday Sky photos today. I wasn’t able to get online to post them since I didn’t get back home until late last night. The hotel we were in had high speed internet, but you had to have a ethernet cable or something and I didn’t have one so I couldn’t connect.

I went this weekend to an SCA Yule Revel. The revel was put on jointly by two groups, the Barony of Bjornsborg and the Shire of Ffynnon Gath. The revel was held at Palmetto State Park, near Gonzales, Tx. Now, on to the photos…

Yeah..I couldn’t decide which one I liked better.

Want to see more??

San Marcos River river02.jpg

The San Marcos River runs through the site where we were. The first shot is a photo from the patio off the back of the building. The second shot is of the path down to the bridge that crosses the river. I was told that the river is really low..and sometimes the water is up over that bridge enough for boats to go over the bridge unimpeded.

A few more??

A couple more river shots, from the bridge.

Someone asked me to post a photo of the dress I was working on. I did get it finished, but haven’t had time to get the trim on it yet. Please excuse the fact that my roots need touching up (and that I’m huge – me thinks its diet time)
Lady Brangwyne

I will be posting more about the Yule revel (with more photos) to my SCA blog if you are interested in that kind of thing. I promise I’ll have a fiber related post tomorrow.
