We are fine and there’s no damage at my house

Sunday, September 25th, 2005

We weathered the storm very well. We only lost power for about 2 1/2 hours yesterday afternoon, though some parts of town might still be without power. Right now its a bright sunny day and the expected high is 90 deg F. We did get a LOT of rain, but we needed it since we were 11 inches below the normal rainfall for this time of year.

It feels like we really dodged a bullet. I know the damage is a bunch worse south of here and over in Lake Charles and Abbeville, Louisiana. I’m very thankful, but my heart goes out to those that have lost things because of Rita and Katrina.

Just think…we have 6 more weeks of hurricane season left.

While the power was out, I spent a little time at my wheel. I’m spinning up some blue fiber that Kae sent me a while back. She sent me a whole pound of the fiber and I think I’m going to name the yarn Rita. If I get enough I’m thinking of making the Irish Diamond Shawl from Folk Shawls. (Oo..Look Wendy made one too. Irish Diamond)

I think it would look really nice in blue. We’ll see what happens when I get this yarn all spun up and the twist set and how much I have. The pattern calls for 2200 yards of fingering weight. *fingers crossed*

It’s not bad here yet.

more rita

The map above is an updated path projection. Its a nice day out and 94 degrees. It’s just beginning to get windy. 10-15 mph winds with gusts to about 24 mph. You can kind of see some clouds rolling in to the south.

There’s tons of evacuees here but things seem to be running pretty smoothly. They restocked the gas stations sometime in the night. The forecast shows that we should get rain up until Wednesday.

I just got home from Wal-Mart. They are just about out of everything, Milk, water, batteries, bread. The gas stations here are out of gas. I’ll try to keep this updated if we don’t lose power.

A little musical interlude

Tuesday, September 20th, 2005

I listen to NPR (on Red River Radio) on my way to school in the mornings. This moring, among all the other wonderful things and news stories they had an interview with Anoushka Shankar about her new album. The interview is HERE. This CD..along with several of her other ones are now on my amazon wish list and I’ll be buying at least one of them soon.

You can listen to a couple of the tracks on the site ( I can’t since there’s something wrong with my real player and they won’t play in winamp for some reason)

Enjoy the little musical interlude for today.

Arrrghhh…Matey!

Talk Like A Pirate Day

Thanks!!

Saturday, September 17th, 2005

I’d like to thank everyone who sent birthday wishes yesterday! It really made me feel special!

I would also like to apologize for the lack of posting and the lack of knitting content lately. I have been very very ADD with my knitting lately. I’ll start something and then rip it out. Knit 2 rows on another project, put it down and start on something else. I just can’t seem to focus on any one thing right now.

I have completed 7 repeats on the flower basket shawl. I’m going to do more since I have enough yarn (I’ve only started the 2nd ball) and I’d like it to be a bit bigger. I have some socks on the needles somewhere around here and I started the shaped triangle shawl from A Gathering of Lace last night. I still have the spiral shawl on the needles but I’ve not worked on it in weeks.

Anyone else ever get in a funk like this?? What did you do to get out of it and finally gets something finished?
