I promised photos of the yarn….

First you take this:

Then you add a spinning wheel and you make this:

(this is made from the fiber on the right)

(this is made from the lighter fiber on the left)

Both were dyed with the exact same dye. For the lighter instead of thoroughly saturating the fiber we “spotted” it.

Both together for comparison.

I still have one other ball of fiber yet to spin, but my back is aching. I need a better spinning chair or something.

Last week was a good mail week. A good mail week is when there are less bills and more cool stuff.

First, on Thursday, this arrived:

This is the yarn that I chose for the mysterystolealong. The color is Verde Granada. (I have a thing for green and I’m going with it lately) There is still time to join the mysterystolealong if you haven’t yet. The first clue won’t be released until Wednesday. Come on and join…you know you want to!!

Next..Friday brought this:

*DROOL* You will never guess how much I paid for this book. A whole whopping 94 cents. *grin* I participate in a site called MyPoints. My points send out a couple of “bonus mail” emails every day. If you click on the link in the email you get some points. If you complete the offer in the email you get even more points. Some time last month, they had an email about blockbuster online (which I was considering doing anyway) and I completed the offer and got 2000 points. I already had about 1500 so I redeemed my points for a $25 Barnes and Noble Gift Certificate. So, that’s how I only paid 94 cents for “A Gathering of Lace.” If you are interested in doing the My Points stuff, let me know and I can send you an invitation.

And last, but certainly not least, Saturday brought these:

Beautiful stitch markers as a RAOK from the lovely Laura. Thanks so much Laura! With all the lace knitting I’ve been doing lately, I’ve been running out of markers.

All in all I’d say that was a good mail week, wouldn’t you??

Next post: I’ll be showing some of the yarn that I’ve made with the roving we dyed last week. Two skeins done so far. Stay tuned.

The kids and I had a dye day on Friday. Well…2/3 of the kids. The middle one would rather play Nintendo.

This is a ball of roving that I had. I can’t remember the fiber type. I had two balls. The other ball is what you see dyed a few entries before this one.

OO…exciting..a photo of wool soaking in the sink (with vinegar)

This is Carmen starting on some of the roving. She even mixed the colors to dye with. We used regular food coloring and some of the neon food coloring.

The Liam really liked dyeing. He wants to do more.

This is some dyed roving all ready to be rolled up and nuked.

Fini!! All done and drying outside.

There are a few more photos of our dyeing experiment in my Photo Gallery. I’ve already started spinning some of this stuff and its looking neat. I’ve nearly got a bobin full and I’m going to try out Navajo Plying when I get it full. Here’s hoping I can figure that out.
