I’ve decided to have a little contest. This is just for fun..and the prizes aren’t huge, but they’re cute.
What I want is for everyone to share their favorite FREE sock pattern. Easy peasy?? Tell me why you like the pattern and what makes it your favorite. You can post a link in my comments, or you can email me from the link at the top left of this page.
The contest will run from now…until next Friday (February 18) evening sometime. (specific huh??)
Saturday morning I will pick 5 random entries for the 5 prizes that I’m offering. What prizes you ask??
These prizes:
I’m giving away two of these sheep. Uh..hello..I’m keeping one of them!! They are little pottery piggy..uh sheepy banks. They are covered with sheepy fur. Kae says they look kind of like the serta sheep.
and…..
I have three of these to give away. Sheep mugs. Hmm..I see a theme here.
So…post away people..share your fave patterns with me.
You could be one of the five lucky winners.

My favorite free pattern is the Paton’s Family of Ribbed sock. (http://www.knitnet.com/0211/patterns/familrib/familr02.htm) I like it because it makes a very nice ribbed sock that stays up well and looks great. It also gives you instructions for lots of different sizes. I use this pattern for kids’ charity socks AND socks for myself!

Here is where my current favorite is from - its listed in a yahoo groop that you have to join, but its not hard to get too. I’m doing the maple leaf socks right now, and the cascading leaf socks next (I think!)

The socks I find myself knitting over and over are just the basic sock pattern. I started out using the Magic Stripe pattern listed on the lion brand ball, and kind of change it to suit my needs– make the ribbing longer or shorter, use k2p2 instead of k1p1 etc. I have been wanting to try Broadripple though:

These look nice, too. I’m really getting into cables lately:

I really like the Pink Ribbons sock from Lisa Lloyd Designs.
It was a (free) “sock of the month” pattern in October to bring attention to Breast Cancer Awareness. Not only is it a cute pattern, but it raises awareness. Plus, you don’t have to make it in pink, so guys can show their support in navy blue or gray!

This is a super simple pattern for toe up socks done on two circs. I used this pattern to get over my phobia of toe up patters!http://www.needletrax.com/toeupon2circulars.htm

I have two favorites…
1) Wendy’s toe up pattern
2) Fluted Banister socks
And because I’m odd, I’m currently working both. On the same pair of socks.

My favorite free sock pattern is Twisted Mary, http://www.simpaticoyarns.com/socks.htm. Just enough interest to keep me knitting, not so much the socks take too much of my attention, make varigated yarn look fantastic, and they fit perfectly.

Oh Steph….they are sooo cute. I rarely if ever knit socks so I’m disqualified right off the bat!! Would dearly love to know where you got them from as I’d splurge my fiber funds to get them. You are going to make someone so very happy.
